About

Our Mission

At West End Playhouse, our mission is to help children grow into confident, expressive, and emotionally aware humans through the craft of acting. We believe acting is far more than memorizing lines or performing on stage. It is a powerful tool for self-discovery. Through play, imagination, and story telling, children learn how to communicate clearly, listen deeply, take creative risks, and understand both themselves and others.

Shannon Clarke

Artistic Director & Head Instructor

Hi, I’m Shannon, founder of West End Playhouse and I built this studio specifically for kids who are ready to discover what they’re capable of.

I am continually inspired by children’s imagination, honesty, and capacity for growth when they are given the right environment. That inspiration is what West End Playhouse was built on, a space designed to foster natural creativity, playful expression, and genuine connection. A place where kids can get to know other kids in the neighbourhood and build real friendships along the way.

Every child comes to class differently. Some are shy and still finding their voice. Others are natural performers who crave the spotlight. We meet each child where they are, support them at their individual level, and create something magical together. If your child has never tried acting before, that’s completely fine! Our classes are open to all levels.

As an actor and acting teacher, I’ve worked with a number of companies across the Ottawa theatre community, performing in a wide range of productions, most recently playing Barbara Fordham in Elevator Theatre Company’s production of August: Osage County at the Gladstone Theatre. Alongside my work on stage, I have taught young actors in improv, scene work, and performance-based classes.

I hold a degree in Psychology with a focus on child development. It shapes how I approach every class, meet each kid where they are, and create an environment where they feel safe enough to take real risks. Teaching children has become the most meaningful part of my creative life and I’m so happy you’re here. I hope you’ll join us.
